Bridgeport Breeze #35 (5-20-22)

3 1

Hello Awesome Bridgeport Families!

Thank you for your support with our end of the year assessments by making sure your child was present, and physically and mentally prepared to test. These assessments help us gauge students' grasp of grade level content. We also use them to plan for the upcoming school year by helping us evaluate the effectiveness of our teaching and intervention practices, and to determine who will need review once the school year begins. Our Bridgeport Dolphins did a great job on these assessments and we are so proud of them!

Saugus is still planning on hosting a Summer STEAM Camp. We will find out the number of spots Bridgeport is allotted soon and will reach out to families at that point.

Again, thank you for your partnership and support as always! Have a fabulous weekend!

Mrs. Humphries and Mr. Henry

CLASSIFIED EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR

Huge Congratulations to Mrs. Hadir Elsayad, our wonderful school nurse, for being named Bridgeport's Classified Employee of the Year and the District's Classified Employee of the Year! This is a much deserved honor and we are so fortunate to have Hadir at Bridgeport. Thank you so much Hadir for all you do for our students, staff, and families!

CAREER DAY - JUNE 3rd - 8:30am to 10:00am

So far we have about 30 parents and family friends sign up to speak at our Career Day on June 3rd. We could use a few more to make the day a huge success. We will also need volunteers to help escort speakers to and from classrooms (separate sign up to come)

Please consider sharing your career and/or hobby with our students. It is never too early to expose them to different career choices.

Please sign up here if you are available to share your career with students on June 3rd:

END OF THE YEAR iREADY ASSESSMENT

The iReady diagnostic assessment is taken by all students three times per year (at the beginning of the year, mid-year, and at the end of the year) in order to monitor progress on grade level standards and content throughout the year. Based on our mid-year assessment, our students did extremely well and made a tremendous amount of growth. We expect the same, if not better results on the end of the year assessment.

All of our students will be taking this assessment within the next two weeks. Results of this assessment will be attached to their end of the year report card.

Students will have access to iReady over the summer to keep up with their academic skills. I recommend planned use over the summer to prevent regression.

ASIAN-PACIFIC ISLANDER HERITAGE MONTH

May is Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month.  We join in with the rest of America in paying tribute to the generations of Asian and Pacific Islanders who have enriched America's history and are instrumental in its future success.

Tammy Duckworth, Thai American Army Veteran and U.S. SenatorBorn in 1968, in Bangkok, Thailand, to an American father and Thai mother, Tammy Duckworth is the first Thai American woman elected to U.S. Congress, the first person born in Thailand to be elected to U.S. Congress, the first woman with a disability elected to U.S. Congress, the first female double amputee in the Senate, and the first U.S. senator to give birth while in office. A former U.S. Army lieutenant colonel and veteran of the Iraq War, Duckworth lost both of her legs and some mobility in her right arm after her helicopter was hit by a rocket-propelled grenade fired by Iraqi insurgents, causing severe combat wounds. Despite her injuries, she sought and obtained a medical waiver that allowed her to continue serving in the Illinois Army National Guard until she retired as a lieutenant colonel in 2014.
