The Kern County Sheriff’s Office Rural Crimes Investigations Unit has been investigating a carjacking that occurred in the Lamont area on May 26, 2022. During that incident, an industrial sprayer truck was taken at gunpoint by two Hispanic males, along with the victim’s phone and debit card. A round was also fired during the incident but the victim was uninjured.
During the investigation, one of the suspects was identified as Maximo Portillo, 42, out of Lamont. On June 28, 2022, the Rural Crimes Investigations Unit and Deputies from the Lamont Substation located and arrested Portillo without incident in the area of Di Giorgio Road and Weedpatch Highway.
The second Hispanic male remains unidentified. Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to call the Kern County Sheriff’s Office Rural Crime Investigation Unit at (661) 392-6071 or (661) 861-3110.
